Its finalized! The new Spider-man movie’s title is the one most were hoping for The Amazing Spider-man! The title was announced today simultaneously with announcing the movie’s new official website TheAmazingSpiderman-movie.com.
Along with those announcements, we get an official close look at the costume, with full mask (boots are hidden though in shadow). My only question is, are the lenses actually yellow tinted, or is that from the angle of the picture released? I will say though, I like how the webbing looks on the mask. Check the picture out below.
The Amazing Spider-Man will be released in 3D on July 3, 2012. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves
MTV’s Splash Page has released a clear shot of the new Spider-man suit from the reboot. I’m sorry, buy my first reaction to this is that the mask makes me think of the old Japanese Spider-man show where he had a Power Rangers like robot. I love the fact that he has web-shooters (yes I’m sticking to that belief until told otherwise). I’m hoping small things like the red lenses and what looks like tennis shoes are just elements for the stunt suit and not actual elements of the actual suit that we’ll see, but at this point, with all the liberties they’ve taken with the suit already, who knows.
I had been optimistic with all the blurry shots up to this point, keeping faith that the look of the mask would win me over. For me, its failed. I’m a huge Spidey fan, and to me, this isn’t Spider-man.
Check out Splash Page with a few close ups of the mask and web-shooters, and below for the opening to the aforementioned Japanese Spider-man show.
After the videos and pictures that came out yesterday, Comingsoon.net posted a new video of the same scene but slight closer and different angle. That video has given us a couple more looks at the new costume.
From the pictures above, we can see that the “belt” comes around from the back and down the side and back of the thigh. The red also seems to extend down the back of his arm to the elbow. Is it possible we could have some sort of symbol beside the classic spider symbol on Spider-man’s back? One that extends down the arms and legs?

Web Shooters confirmed in new Spidey photo?
First Look: The NEW Spider-man suit and emblem
If you look at the new picture released today of Andrew Garfield in the new Spider-man suit, beyond the lack of a traditional belt, and the new styled gloves, if you look close enough, you’ll see that there are what appear to be silver discs poking out of each glove. Could they have finally gone back to the traditional material and given Peter Parker his mechanical web shooters rather then the organic ones? Here’s hoping!
UPDATE: Today ComingSoon.net has posted a video of a brief interview segment from MTV in which Emma Stone says the shooters are “a device.” Click on over to check it out!
Okay, I have avoided to this point, posting anything related to the new Spider-man movie in development because 1. I’m a huge Spidey fan and could easily let the site slip into something 75% related to Spider-man, and 2. I’ve been on the fence regarding this movie. Yes, the teenage Peter Parker sounds good, as there is plenty of stories and angst there. Gwen Stacey is always good as if you’re going to tell the story of Spider-man you really can’t leave her out. My hold up has been how they were going to present the story. The picture they released today, of the first look of the new Spider-man suit, doesn’t help me in that regard as its obvious they’ve taken liberties on how they’re presenting the costume.
Below is the newly released picture of Andrew Garfield in the new Spider-man suit, sans the mask, showing some of the changes, including the gloves and lack of belt, both I’m not sold on as Spidey’s red and blues are as iconic as Superman’s.
You’ll also notice an update to the spider emblem on his chest. This doesn’t bother me, I actually like the look of it. Below is my poor and quick attempt at a duplication of the emblem. (Hard to tell the true design from the cuts in the costume and the dark nature of the picture)
One thing I can say that I like this over the Spider-man suits of the previous movies, that that the webbing is not raised, or at least not how it was in those movies. In that regard, I like the costume.
Below are two desktop wallpapers I made playing with the new emblem, just for fun.
What’s your opinion of what they’ve shown us of the newest Spidey suit?
