Including first good glance of the spider emblem on the back, and a closer look at the boots.
Comingsoon.net has posted some close-up shots of the new Spider-man costume from the filming in LA from On Location News. These new shots give us a clearer picture of the mask, the back of the costume and the boots.
After looking at these pictures, it appears that the webbing is somewhat raised or at least reflective from the shots, especially from the lighting on the mask. We have our first real glace of the spider emblem on the back of his costume, or the lack there of, as it appears they’ve just duplicated the black spider emblem from the front rather then have the classic red emblem help break up the solid blue of the back. (Hate this change) We also get more looks at the boots, and they continue to look like they are wrestling boots to me.
I’m still up in the air on this costume. Some of the simple changes I was able to live with, like the red down the leg, but taking out the red spider emblem from the back? That takes away one of the more iconic images of Spider-man. When he’s swinging away from you, you see that big red spider on his back, and now with this new costume, you no longer have that. Out of all the changes they’ve made, I think this is the biggest mistake thus far. Check out a few pictures below, and check out Comingsoon’s coverage from the link above.
Below is a collection of some of the photos that have popped up online this week from the Spider-man reboot currently filming in LA. If nothing else, I have to say that the shots of Spidey swinging, really begins to sell me on at least the action sequences that this film will have. Lets continue to hope for the best! If anyone comes up with additional photos, feel free to post below, and we can week a running collection.
After the videos and pictures that came out yesterday, Comingsoon.net posted a new video of the same scene but slight closer and different angle. That video has given us a couple more looks at the new costume.
From the pictures above, we can see that the “belt” comes around from the back and down the side and back of the thigh. The red also seems to extend down the back of his arm to the elbow. Is it possible we could have some sort of symbol beside the classic spider symbol on Spider-man’s back? One that extends down the arms and legs?

Web Shooters confirmed in new Spidey photo?
First Look: The NEW Spider-man suit and emblem
Okay, these have been all over the web today, where people caught a glimpse of some filming going on in LA, where Spider-man is running through traffic to jump into the back of a moving pickup. First off, I’ve seen people ask why is he running and not swinging. Well, if you go by the basis that he is using mechanical web shooters (like me) then you’ll probably expect at some point for him to run out of web fluid, and if you’re Spidey without web fluid, what’s the next best chance to get somewhere?
Another thing we get to see is what appears to be a few more details in terms of what the new costume will look like. Judging by the picture below, the back of the costume is somewhat different at the shoulders, now angling up towards the neck in the middle. There also appears to be blue fingers on the gloves, and some red going down the outside of the thigh (possibly connecting in the back, where the “belt” used to be? At least one thing seems to be the same to this point, and that seems to be the boots seem to still be that way they normally are. Also, I’m aware this shows him in a mask, and it appears to be more towards the “small eyes” version, but I do not believe this is what the mask will look like in the end. I’m going to assume that this is a stunt double wearing one of the costumes, and the mask has smaller eye holes, ones that are covered, to allow him to do his stunts. (Notice how the filming is from behind and doesn’t ever truly get his face.)
Here are some other shots that have popped up on the web, including a Daily Bugle van, and a sign possibly hinting to something related to the Lizard.
If you look at the new picture released today of Andrew Garfield in the new Spider-man suit, beyond the lack of a traditional belt, and the new styled gloves, if you look close enough, you’ll see that there are what appear to be silver discs poking out of each glove. Could they have finally gone back to the traditional material and given Peter Parker his mechanical web shooters rather then the organic ones? Here’s hoping!
UPDATE: Today ComingSoon.net has posted a video of a brief interview segment from MTV in which Emma Stone says the shooters are “a device.” Click on over to check it out!
Okay, I have avoided to this point, posting anything related to the new Spider-man movie in development because 1. I’m a huge Spidey fan and could easily let the site slip into something 75% related to Spider-man, and 2. I’ve been on the fence regarding this movie. Yes, the teenage Peter Parker sounds good, as there is plenty of stories and angst there. Gwen Stacey is always good as if you’re going to tell the story of Spider-man you really can’t leave her out. My hold up has been how they were going to present the story. The picture they released today, of the first look of the new Spider-man suit, doesn’t help me in that regard as its obvious they’ve taken liberties on how they’re presenting the costume.
Below is the newly released picture of Andrew Garfield in the new Spider-man suit, sans the mask, showing some of the changes, including the gloves and lack of belt, both I’m not sold on as Spidey’s red and blues are as iconic as Superman’s.
You’ll also notice an update to the spider emblem on his chest. This doesn’t bother me, I actually like the look of it. Below is my poor and quick attempt at a duplication of the emblem. (Hard to tell the true design from the cuts in the costume and the dark nature of the picture)
One thing I can say that I like this over the Spider-man suits of the previous movies, that that the webbing is not raised, or at least not how it was in those movies. In that regard, I like the costume.
Below are two desktop wallpapers I made playing with the new emblem, just for fun.
What’s your opinion of what they’ve shown us of the newest Spidey suit?
Today The CW released a new promo-poster for the return of Smallville on January 28th. The new poster carries the tagline “Destiny is Now” and shows Clark Kent (Tom Welling) standing with a chrome version of the “Superman Returns” ‘S’ shield behind him, and a smooth reflective version of the shield below him.
In the reflection is a glimpse of the iconic costume. The reflection unfortunately is mostly the reflection of Brandon Routh’s Superman, from a Superman Returns promo. (See comparison below)
However, there is one noticeable difference. I do not believe that this is a tease as to we MIGHT see Smallville’s Clark Kent don the famous Red and Blues, but to an indication that we will be seeing him, and that it will not be a carbon copy of the classic costume, but will have a Smallville spin on it. This suspicion comes from the fact that yes, the reflection is of Brandon Routh in his Superman Returns costume, which we have already seen hinted as the costume used, however, if you pay close attention to the reflection of the boots, the blue and the red do not match up with how the costume is typically depicted.
Deliberate change, or just sloppy Photoshop work? Guess we’ll find out soon enough!
