Early success or just a tease?

Bug officially used her potty for the first time tonight!  She came into the bathroom while I was in there shaving.  Typically she laughs at me because I have shaving cream on my face, but this time was different. She had her laptop with her and went straight to her potty and lifted the lid.  I sat and watched her, even offering to hold her laptop as I watched her negotiate how to sit down on this seat with a hole in it.  Eventually she had both feet in it, so Daddy decided to intervene.  I picked her up and thinking that while she showed interest in sitting on it, I’d take her diaper off while I was in there just to give her the whole concept.  So, I took her diaper off, sat her down, put her laptop in her lap, and watched as she sat there like she knew what she was doing and looking happy as a lark.

A few minutes later, she stood up and handed me her laptop. I at first just brushed it off as she was already bored, and was ready to go back out from the bathroom. Daddy wasn’t entertaining anymore. When to my surprise, I saw that she had in fact used her potty!  I was so excited and overjoyed I started cheering and clapping, and I believe the initially reaction actually startled her.  After a few moments, she realized I was in fact cheering for her, so she proceeded to start clapping and giving her typical “yay!” in excitement.

She teased me with acting like she was interested in using her potty on my birthday, and now 3 weeks later, she’s used it for the first time!  Now do I expect a sudden change in behavior?  A daily use of the potty?  No, I’m not near that optimistic!  I am however excited by the possibilities!  Maybe potty training won’t be so bad?  One can hope!

Rockabye Baby! – A Parents Answer to “Kids Music”

rockabye_acdc As I write this, I’m going to do my best to avoid the desire to do the whole “Rock and Roll ain’t noise pollution” pun, but am making no promises! I originally heard about Rockabye Baby! while listening to the Bob and Tom radio show one morning, long before Bug was born, and made a mental note to myself that once we had our baby, that I had to get my hands on some of the CDs. Eventually I managed to get my hands on my first CD, which was based off AC/DC, and after having the AC/DC version for awhile, listening to it with Bug, and letting my brother borrow it for my niece Madelynn, I can say that I will be turning around and getting a few more, possible even for me, and definitely for the next parents that come up in the family.

Here is the description of the AC/DC album from Rockabye Baby!:

With the Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of AC/DC – Do you have a problem child? Rock and roll ain´t noise pollution, but unwanted cries are. When you´re up to your neck in dirty diapers, AC/DC´s primordial anthems are just the ticket. Your little live wire will be rocked to sleep by these gentle instrumentals. For those about to nap, we salute you.  Rockabye Baby! transforms timeless rock songs into beautiful instrumental lullabies. Guitars and drums are traded for soothing mellotrons, vibraphones and bells, and the volume is turned down from an eleven to a two. Rockabye Baby! is the perfect way to share the music you love with the littlest rocker in your life.

Rockabye Baby AC/DC Features the following AC/DC Hits:

  • Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
  • Highway to Hell
  • Who Made Who
  • You Shook Me All Night Long
  • Back In Black
  • Thunderstruck
  • It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Want to Rock ‘n’ Roll)
  • Hells Bells
  • For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)
  • Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution

The essence behind these great CDs and this great concept are the people at Rockabye Baby! who have taken well known and classic rock songs, including those from the Rolling Stones, Metallica, and The Beatles and replaced the hard rock sounds of drums and guitars with the soothing, relaxing sounds of the glockenspiel, vibraphone, mellotron, and other instruments (like mentioned in the description above) to create soothing lullaby songs for your baby, while keeping the beat and sound of the songs you love. While listening to the CD, I’ve found myself not only rocking Bug to these songs, but also singing them under my breath. It’s really a unique thing to share with my daughter. The songs that used to give me cold chills and get me pumped for high school football games can now sooth my daughter to slumber. Definitely not something that these artists had in mind of course, but regardless, these are great and I consider them a definite can’t miss for parents!
