Kentuckians DONATE MORE THAN 3,200 PHONES IN 2010 TO VERIZON wireless’ hopeline program
Verizon Wireless and HopeLine Donate 1 Million Minutes of Service and $17,000 in Cash Grants to Help Survivors of Domestic Violence in Kentucky
Louisville, kY – Last year, Kentuckians donated more than 3,200 no-longer-used wireless phones to Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine® program, helping to support and put resources into the hands of those affected by domestic violence in Kentucky.
HopeLine from Verizon puts the nation’s most reliable wireless network to work in the community by collecting no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries and accessories in any condition, from any wireless service provider. Verizon Wireless and the HopeLine program provide wireless phones and airtime to victims of domestic violence and cash grants to local shelters and non-profit organizations that focus on domestic violence prevention, awareness and advocacy. Phones that cannot be refurbished are recycled in an environmentally sound way under a zero-landfill policy.
“We are grateful to those Kentuckians who donated their no-longer-used phones to HopeLine in 2010,” said John Granby, president–Kentucky/Indiana/Michigan Region for Verizon Wireless. “Your actions are making a difference in the community and helping to support the families of Kentucky affected by domestic violence. Thank you.”
Support for Kentucky
The generosity of consumers and businesses who donated in Kentucky enabled Verizon Wireless to award $17,000 in cash grants to local domestic violence agencies. These agencies included Bethany House Abuse Shelter, Inc. in Somerset, The Center for Women and Families in Louisville and Chrysalis House, Inc. in Lexington.
Verizon Wireless’ National Commitment
Throughout 2010, HopeLine collected more than 1.1 million phones and awarded more than $2.1 million in grants to nearly 450 domestic violence prevention and awareness programs. Moreover, through HopeLine, Verizon Wireless provided 25,392 phones with a total of 75 million free minutes of service to shelters and agencies nationwide for use by clients, including more than 1 million minutes to organizations in Kentucky.
Since 2001, HopeLine has collected more than 8 million phones; awarded more than $10 million in cash grants to prevention and awareness programs nationwide; and donated more than 106,000 HopeLine phones with 319 million minutes of airtime to victims, survivors and domestic violence organizations.

Had to share this on here when I came across it. I love anything James Bond (Sean Connery is the best, deal with it!) but I’m still finding myself trying to warm up to Daniel Craig. What better way to get me to warm up to him then to put him against the Wolfpack?!
That’s right, its 007 vs The Wolfpack! And by the way, this is no where close to being safe for work due to language.
The two-part season opener has The Doctor, Amy and Rory on an adventure over here in the US, where they “find themselves on a secret summons that takes them on an adventure from the desert in Utah-right to the Oval Office in 1969” Also the two-part has as few guest stars in the form of Mark Sheppard who is playing Canton Everett Delaware III per IMDB, and of course Alex Kingston bring back River Song.
EW also says that the show had record ratings for BBC America and was at top seller on iTunes behind Mad Men and Glee. (I am one of those people, as I only jumped on Doctor Who after the last season aired, mostly thanks to the Nerdist)
Also, check out their first look at the new Doctor Who poster, can’t wait to see a larger version of that!!
Here is a sneak peek for something I’m working on that I should be announcing on here soon. If you follow me on Twitter you probably already have a good idea what this is for. Any feedback or criticism is greatly appreciated.
If you read my previous review of Mimobot’s Vintage Batman flash drive, you already know of my love affair I have with it and how well I was looking forward to the rest of the Batman line being released. Well, the wait is over as Mimobot has released their 4 additional USB flash drives for their Batman line. As soon as I finished writing my review of the Vintage Batman, I turned around and preordered a Joker, because hey, if I’m going to have Batman, I’ve got to have The Joker, right? Right! Plus, who better to protect my data then the Crowned Prince of Crime?
The Joker comes with all the greatness that the Batman one did. All the same specs and available options including capacity sizes from 2 gig up to 16 gig are available. The design is great, making it a great compliment to anyone’s Batman collection. Seriously this is one of the coolest flash drives you can buy out there right now if you ask my opinion. (I have yet to find a Doctor Who related flash drive, still looking though).
So, with my love of all things Mimobot realized, I’m proud to announce the first true, official, physical giveaway for Geekasms. I am giving away 1 Mimobot The Joker Flash drive, in the 4 gig flavor. To enter the contest and be in the drawing for this terrific flash drive, you have 3 options:

Nation’s Largest Wireless Provider Tops in Regions Covering 44 States
Basking RiDge, N.J. – When it comes to call quality, wireless users rate Verizon Wireless as the leader in five regions covering 44 states, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2011 Wireless Call Quality Performance StudySM, Volume 1, issued today.
The J.D. Power and Associates study measures call quality among the major U.S. wireless service providers in six regions based on factors that impact overall carrier performance. More than 27,250 wireless phone subscribers were surveyed by J.D. Power and Associates between July and December 2010 about their experiences with dropped calls, static/interference, failed connection on the first try, voice distortion, echoes, no immediate voice mail notification, and no immediate text message notification.
Verizon Wireless ranked highest in the following regions:
· Northeast Region, which covers Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
· West Region, which covers Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
· Southeast Region, which covers nine additional states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
· Southwest Region, which covers Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
· Mid-Atlantic Region (where Verizon Wireless tied for the top ranking), which covers Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
“When we say we offer Verizon Wireless customers the nation’s most reliable wireless network, we mean it,” said David Small, vice president and chief technical officer of Verizon Wireless. “These awards are a demonstration of our company’s commitment to invest in our network: more than $6 billion annually; as well as the dedication of Verizon Wireless employees who plan, engineer, build and maintain our nationwide network. We remain committed to continuing our investment for our customers, both in our 3G network and in our 4G LTE network that we are rolling out across the country.”
Been a while since anything related to the Spider-man reboot, Amazing Spider-man was posted, so here are a few photos taken from the set, along with a video.
I’ll admit, the costume is warming up to me, it seems like we’re getting a bazillion new costumes between the comics and this movie that, so right now, I’m pretty happy to see red and blue!
Still not sure how I like the golden looking lenses, rings back to the Spider-man Unlimited cartoon, that fact itself might be the one thing holding me up from really liking it, but we’ll wait and see it in action, there is always a chance it’ll look cool.
